In order to create custom icons for a windows computer the files must be in .ico format. This means that regular images such as .png, or even .jpeg cannot be used. All desktop folder icon sets sold with iMaddbox automatically include .ico files (for windows users) as well as .png files (for mac users) to update the folder icon aesthetic of a windows device.
STEP 1
Make sure your .ico files are saved in a place that is easy to locate. Create a new folder on your desktop, or select an existing one. Right click on the folder you want to change - in this tutorial we will be using the "Sample" folder. Then Select "Properties"
STEP 2
In the folder "Properties" menu select the "Customize" tab - then select "Change Icon..."
STEP 3
Select the .ico file from the designated folder you saved the .ico files in at the beginning of this tutorial. Then Select open, and on the next screen you can select the icon then "Ok"
STEP 4
Select "Ok" or "Apply" then the icon should automatically update as your new folder icon. Repeat this process to update or change any additional folder icons.
NOTE
To remove the updated folder design or image, repeat STEP 1, then in STEP 2 Select "Restore Default" - Select "Ok" or "Apply" - this will revert the folder icon back to its original state.
